29 June 2023 - Kenya's President approves the Finance Bill containing the new Digital Asset Tax
Kenya's President has assented to the Finance Bill, 2023 according to an announcement from the President's Office. The Bill contained a 3% Digital Asset Tax mainly targeted at owners of platforms that facilitate the transfer of NFTs and cryptocurrencies (please see our Megabyte for May 2023).
28 June 2023 - Canada passes law on digital platform reporting
The enactment on 22 June 2023 of Bill C-47 brings into force section 78 adding to the Income Tax Act in Part XX (sections 282-295) the Draft legislation and Explanatory Notes that were published 3 November 2022 to implement the commitment made in the Canadian 2022 Federal Budget on a proposal to implement model rules developed by the OECD for reporting by digital platform operators (see our November 2022 Megabyte).
