Summary

In Revenue & Customs Brief 35/14, HMRC announces that it will not be appealing the Upper Tribunal's decision in Lok'nStore Group Plc [2014] UKUT 0288 (TCC) that a partial exemption special method based on floor space was fair and reasonable for a self storage business. However HMRC does not agree with certain aspects of the decision and restates its policy that floor space is not a suitable method for retail businesses in particular.
