What does success look like? For many finance professionals, the answer is reasonably straightforward. But when it comes to the tax function, it’s a different matter; the leaders of tax and finance might even have contrasting ideas. Tax is a broad and complex function, spanning direct and indirect taxes and involving controversy, compliance and financial reporting, and many tax administration stakeholders globally and locally; in such an environment, it’s easy to lose sight of what success means in practice.

This difficult subject is the focus of the recent publication in our Tax Function of the Future series. The series has already highlighted the challenges that tax functions will face over the coming years and the growing need for tax to influence its organisation; we’re now moving on to discuss what tax functions need to do now to operate successfully in an increasingly complex environment.
