Transition rules which gaps do they close? 

Finally a deal. House of Commons, House of Lords, the Queen and now the EU Parliament have finally approved the deal. The transition rules are being implemented but what does that mean from a social security perspective?

Applying the social security lenses to the transition rules brings a lot of the clarity and predictability that employers have demanded over the past years at least for the short term.

Brexit communication over the past 3 years has had a tendency to be rather chaotic, but at least in the short term the transition rules provide a degree of clarity. For now the message is that, at least until 31 December 2020, the “status quo” remains from a social security perspective.
